Privacy Policy

HANJI

Effective date: 2026-09-14

TERAGAMEZ ("we") publishes the Korean-alphabet learning app HANJI — Learn Hangeul ("the App", package ID com.teragamez.hanji). This policy explains what happens to your data when you use it.

1. Using the app without signing in — we collect nothing

Every learning feature works without signing in. If you do not sign in, your progress and settings are stored on your device only and are never sent to our server. (The one exception is the anonymous usage statistics in section 5, and only if you turn them on yourself.)

ItemWhere it is storedWhat it contains
Learning progressDevice (hanji-progress)Stages cleared and stars earned, XP and level, streak, Glyph Energy, review queue (letters you often miss), per-letter accuracy, reaction time and last-studied date, letter pairs you confused, hidden words found, the resume point of an unfinished stage, your daily goal, and the last 60 days of daily counts. It contains nothing that identifies you, such as a name or email address.
App settingsDevice (hanji-settings)Interface language, accessibility settings such as reduce motion, haptics and no time limits, study reminder on/off and time, and whether you agreed to share anonymous usage data.

2. Signing in (optional) — Google or Apple account

If you want to keep your progress when you change phones or reinstall the App, you can sign in with Google or Apple (iOS) in the Me tab. Signing in is optional, and every learning feature stays available without it.

What we collect

ItemSourcePurpose
Sign-in provider (Google/Apple) and the account identifier it issuesGoogle/Apple sign-inTelling accounts apart
Email addressProvided by Google/Apple if available. If you choose Apple's "Hide My Email", a relay address of the form …@privaterelay.appleid.comIdentifying the account and answering your enquiries
Name (display name)Google profile / Apple, once, at your first sign-inShown inside the App
A copy of your learning progressThe AppSyncing between devices and backup. Same items as the learning progress in section 1.
Refresh token issued by Apple (Apple sign-in only)AppleUsed only to disconnect Sign in with Apple (revoke the token) when you delete your account, and deleted together with the account.
  • We never receive a password. Google and Apple handle authentication; we only verify the signature on the sign-in token they issue.
  • To keep you signed in, the App stores the sign-in token we issue, plus your display name and email, on your device (hanji-auth). Signing out or deleting your account removes them from the device.
  • Where it is stored: a database on a server we operate (Amazon Web Services, Seoul region ap-northeast-2, Republic of Korea).
  • How long it is kept: until you delete your account. It is destroyed immediately on deletion (section 3).

How syncing works

While you are signed in, opening the App or finishing a stage or daily quest merges your device's progress with the server copy item by item, so that neither side's progress is lost. Language, accessibility and notification settings can differ from device to device, so they are not synced.

3. Deleting your account

  • In the App (immediate): Me tab → Account & Sync → Delete account. Your account details and the progress copy on our server are deleted immediately. For Google sign-in, the App revokes its access to your Google account; for Apple sign-in, our server disconnects Sign in with Apple.
  • Outside the App: if you cannot use the App, email [email protected] with the sign-in method you used (Google/Apple) and that account's email address. We will delete the account within 30 days and reply to confirm.

Deleting your account leaves the progress on your device in place, so you can keep using the App without signing in (uninstalling the App erases it). Server logs and backups hold only a random internal ID that cannot be traced to you — never your email or name — and they are cycled out within 30 days.

Step-by-step instructions are on the account and data deletion page.

4. Advertising — Google AdMob

The App is free and shows a banner ad at the bottom of the screen. To do this it uses Google's advertising service, AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK).

To serve and measure those ads, Google may collect and process the following. Google does this independently; we neither receive nor retain that data. We do not share your sign-in details or learning history with advertisers.

  • Advertising identifiers (Android Advertising ID, iOS IDFA and similar)
  • Device information (model, OS version, language, and an IP address from which approximate location can be inferred)
  • Ad interaction records such as impressions and clicks

Google's own policies are here.

Resetting your advertising ID / turning off personalised ads

  • Android: Settings → Google → All services → Ads → Delete advertising ID or Opt out of Ads Personalisation
  • iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → turn off Allow Apps to Request to Track

These settings apply at the device level and the App follows whatever you choose there. To exercise rights over data Google holds about advertising, follow the process in Google's privacy policy above.

5. Anonymous usage statistics (optional — off by default)

To see where lessons get hard and improve the App, we send anonymous usage records that are not linked to any account to our server — only if you turn this on yourself. It is off by default.

  • What is sent: a random install ID the App creates when it is installed; event names (app opened, onboarding finished, stage started, completed or abandoned, daily or review finished, level up, world cleared, hidden word found); numbers and identifiers for that event (stage number, stars, accuracy, time taken and so on); the App version; and the time.
  • What is not sent: name, email, account identifier, advertising ID or location. These records are never combined with sign-in details, whether or not you are signed in (no sign-in token is attached when they are sent), so they cannot be traced to a particular account or person.
  • How to turn it off: Me tab → Privacy → turn off Share anonymous usage data. Turning it off also deletes any records not yet sent from your device.
  • How long it is kept: destroyed once it is no longer needed for its purpose of improving the App.

6. Notifications — scheduled on your device only

The study reminder is off by default and runs only if you turn it on yourself in the Me tab.

It is a local notification scheduled by your device. No push token is issued, no server exists to send it, and no information about when you studied ever leaves the device. The App schedules the next seven days ahead of time and reschedules them from scratch each time you open it. If you have not studied for more than seven days, a reminder may appear once each on day 10, 14, 21 and 30 — these too are scheduled on your device only.

Notification permission is requested only when you enable the feature. If you decline, every learning feature still works. You can revoke the permission at any time in your device settings.

7. Pronunciation playback (text-to-speech)

Korean pronunciation for letters, syllables and words is spoken by the text-to-speech engine built into your device. What it reads is learning content shipped inside the App, not anything you typed. We take no part in this and keep no record of it.

How your device's speech engine behaves (for example Google Speech Services on Android, or the system voice on iOS) is governed by your operating system and device maker.

8. Permissions the app asks for

  • Notifications — optional, requested only when you turn on the study reminder (section 6).
  • Internet access — used to show ads, to sync progress (if you are signed in) and to send anonymous usage statistics (if you turned them on). All learning works offline.

The App does not access — and does not request permission for — your camera, microphone, location, contacts, photos or call logs.

9. Sharing, processors and international transfers

We do not sell your personal data or share it with third parties. We use the following service providers to run the service.

The App is used in many countries, and signed-in users' account details and progress copies are stored on a server in the Republic of Korea. If you use the App outside Korea, this information is transferred to Korea. If you do not want that, you can use the App without signing in — every learning feature still works.

10. Children under 13

The App is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Signing in is optional, and every learning feature works without it. If we learn that a child's personal data has been collected, we will delete it without delay. If you have a concern, contact us at the address below.

11. Your rights

If you are signed in, you can ask to access, correct or delete your account details and progress copy. You can delete them yourself in the App at any time (section 3); for any other request, email us at the address below. If you are not signed in, your data exists only on your device and uninstalling the App erases all of it.

12. How we protect your data

  • All traffic between the App and our server is encrypted with HTTPS.
  • We verify the signature on sign-in tokens issued by Google and Apple, and we store no passwords.
  • Access to the server and database is restricted to the minimum.
  • Request rates are limited to block abusive traffic.

13. Payments

This version has no in-app purchases. If a future update adds one — such as removing ads — the transaction will be handled by Google Play or the Apple App Store, and we will not collect card numbers or other payment details. We will revise this policy and note the revision date when that happens.

14. Changes to this policy

Any change will be posted on this page together with its effective date. For material changes — such as beginning to collect data we do not collect today — this policy will be revised before the change ships, and we will also announce it in the app or in the store's update notes.
